You may have come across news items like the following in newspapers, on the radio or TV, etc.
There has been a 15 percent increase in food grain production.
The cost of petrol has risen by 5 percent.
Banks reduced interest rates by 1 percent.
We use the word percent often in everyday affairs. Let us find out the meaning of these words and learn how they are used.
Look at the ratios 62/100 , 75/100 , 100/100 .
The denominator of each of the ratios is 100. Such a ratio is called a percentage. A percentage is written using the word percent or the symbol %.
The ratio is written as 62% or 62 percent.
Similarly, means 75 percent or 75%.
means 100 percent or 100%.
