Finding the prime factors of a number
Example. Find the prime factors of 30.
30=10x3. Here , 10 and 3 are factors of 30.
The number 10 can be written as a product of its factors as : 2 x 5. Thus, the prime factors of 30 are :
30 = 2 x 5 x 3. ( 2, 5, 3are prime numbers.)
Finding the prime factors of a number is the same as writing a number as a product of its prime factors.
Tests of divisibility are useful in finding out prime factors.
The amount of VAT
A manufacturing company sold a commodity to
its distributor for Rs. 22, 000 including VAT.
The distributor sold the commodity to a retailer
for Rs. 22, 000 (excluding tax) and the retailer sold it to the consumer for Rs. 25, 000 plus tax under VAT.
If the rate of tax at each stage is 10%,
what was the:
i) Sale price of the commodity
for the manufacturer?
ii) The amount of VAT paid by the retailer?

Topic -1 Sequence & Its Types
Quick Review –
Ø Sequence : A Sequence is a collection of numbers arranged in a definite order according to some definite rule.
Example :
(i) 1, 4, 9, 16, ……(Collection of Perfect squares of Natural numbers)
(ii) 1, 3, 5, 7, …….(Collection of Positive odd Integers)
(iii) −2, − 4, − 6, …..(Collection of Negative even Integers)
Ø Types of Sequence :
(a) Finite Sequence :
If the number of terms in a sequence is finite (Countable), i.e.,
if there is an end of terms in the
sequence, then it is called a finite sequence.
e.g., : 1, 2, 3, ….. 20.
(b) Infinite Sequence :
If the number of terms in a sequence is infinite, then it is called an infinite sequence.
e.g., : 1, 3, 5, 7, ………..
